Warzone developer suggests they will tone down sun lens flare in Verdansk ’84 • Eurogamer.net


A Call of Duty: Warzone developer has suggested they will tone down the sun lens flare in Verdansk ’84 – the game’s main map.

Some players have complained about the sun glare being so intense in Verdansk ’84 that it causes visibility issues. It’s particularly problematic when looking outside of a building from the inside, in certain sections of the map.

Responding to an article on Dexerto, Raven Software’s lead VFX artist Reed Shingledecker tweeted to say: “I can easily tone it down if needed.”

Then: “Looks like I know what I’m doing on Monday. I’m happy to look and address any VFX concerns. Thanks for the feedback.”

However, Shingledecker stressed he’s not able to change the entire lighting of the map – something players have called for since the launch of Verdansk ’84 at the start of season three.

“I can only adjust the brightness of the lens flare on the screen,” Shingledecker tweeted.

“This includes the rays that draw on top of buildings and the screen dirt. I CANNOT control the haziness, god rays, or actual sun brightness.”

Last week, Eurogamer reported on how Warzone’s Rebirth Island map was given a fantastic lighting makeover.

Players discovered this change for themselves and reacted positively, before Raven issued detailed patch notes that revealed Rebirth Island had been given a brighter, more vibrant daytime mode in order to improve visibility, alongside a new point of interest (Control Center) and other map changes – courtesy of fellow Activision-owned studio Beenox.

Warzone players had already called on Raven to give Verdansk ’84 the same treatment. Perhaps now Shingledecker has addressed the issue, the developer will consider a more meaningful change.
